SKB Forward

We are building for the future

After decades of research and development, SKB is now moving forward with our major construction projects. The repository for short-lived radioactive waste is being extended, while preparatory groundworks for the construction of one of the world’s first final repositories for spent nuclear fuel are well underway.

Operations

SKB's nuclear facilities

SKB currently operates two unique nuclear facilities with strong focus on safety. In addition, SKB’s ship, m/s Sigrid, transports the waste from the nuclear power plants to our facilities in Oskarshamn and Forsmark.

New technology

Drones streamline inspections and patrols at SFR

At the Final Repository for Short-Lived Radioactive Waste, SFR, in Forsmark, the maintenance team has invested in a drone to improve the work environment and streamline their work. The investment has already paid for itself during the first few months of the year through more efficient inspections and patrols of the facility.

SKB's sustainability plan

Sustainability - more than just a pretty word

Roadmap for Sustainable Construction and Operation is the name of SKB's sustainability programme and with this plan the direction for the company's sustainability work is set out for many years to come.

Final repository for spent nuclear fuel

On March 16th 2011, after three decades of carrying out research, developing technology and conducting surveys, SKB applied to the authorities for permission to build a repository for spent nuclear fuel in Forsmark and an encapsulation plant in Oskarshamn. It basically concerns the final solution for the spent fuel from Swedish nuclear power plants.

SKB International - solving the global challenge of nuclear waste

Our international subsidiary SKB International provide a wide range of capabilities and services to their clients, based on over 40 years’ experience in research and development in radioactive waste handling.

Our research is available

SKB publishes a large number of scientific reports each year, which report on the results of research in various subject areas.

All publications can be read and downloaded as pdf files, reports in some series can also be ordered as print editions.
